Women Saints part 13

Saint Rose

Rose was born in Lima, Peru. She was the first girl in America to be made a saint. Her real name was Isabel, but her mother called her Rose because of her lovely pink cheeks. Her family was very poor.

Rose always grew sad when people said she was pretty. Her beauty, she thought, might lead to sin. She only wanted her soul to be beautiful to God. So she cut her hair off and wore ugly, old clothes to hide her beauty.

Rose's parents wanted her to marry. But Rose wanted only to serve God by suffering and doing good works. She visited the poor and brought them food and clothing. She asked God to forgive sinners and to let her do penance for their sins. For many years, Rose's parents still tried to convince her to marry. So she finally decided to become a nun.

She lived in the little hut in the garden of her home. When her city was attacked, she prayed to God to save her city. When she died at thirty-one, all Peru was sad to lose her.

Women Saints part 12

Our Lady of Guadalupe
On December 9,1531 the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego, an Indian who had become a Christian. The Blessed Virgin Mary impressed a picture of herself upon his cloak. The splendid picture on the cloak was placed in a shrine for Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Mother Mary wanted her miraculous image to help the native people turn away from their pagan religion and embrace Her Son, Jesus. Many people came to Guadalupe, near Mexico City, to pray at the famous shrine. When they saw the picture of the Blessed Virgin, people from all of Mexico were inspired to love her and do good works in her name. Many miracles were said to happen there.
The people of Mexico, and all the bishops as well, thought of her as a powerful protectress in times of need. So they elected her the principal Patroness of Mexico. Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe has grown so much that she is now known as the Patroness of the Americas.

Women Saints part 11

Saint Barbara

Legend has it that there was once a virgin martyr named Barbara. She was the daughter of a pagan during the reign of Emperor Maximilian. Many men wanted to marry Barbara but she refused all of them. Her father made her live in a tower. There she spent her time saying prayers and studying.

One day when her father was away, she was secretly baptized. Then she had three windows built into her father's bathhouse, because it reminded her of the Trinity.

When her father found out, he tried to kill her, but God saved her. Then her father took her to a judge who had her punished. Her father was still angry. Sohe took her up a mountain and cut off her head while she was saying her prayers. On the waydown, he was himself stuck by lightning and died.

Saint Barbara is the Patron Saint for Protection from lightning and storms, a sure helper from heaven.

Women Saints part 10

Saint Frances Cabrini

Frances was born in Italy, the youngest of thirteen children. Her parents sent her to school in a convent boarding school.

Having finished school, she tried to become a sister. But the convent wouldn't accept her because of her poor health. She tried again at another convent, but they turned her down too.

When a priest asked her to teach in a school for girls, she agreed and continued teaching for six years. Then a bishop asked her to start a missionary order of sisters to care for poor children in hospitals and schools. The order was called the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Pope asked her to travel to the United States and work among the Italians living there. She became an American and started many orphanages, schools and hospitals.

Women Saints part 9

Saints Elizabeth Seton
Elizabeth's parents were wealthy and well-known Episcopalians in New York. Her mother died when she was young and Elizabeth's father saw to her schooling.
When Elizabeth was nineteen, she married William Seton. They traveled to Leghorn, Italy, but William was very sick and he died there. The devoutly Catholic Filicchi family, who became Elizabeth's lifelong friends, took her into their home to comfort her in her grief. Before she left Italy, she began to learn about the Catholic religion.
Elizabeth returned to New York and became a Catholic. Archbishop Carroll asked her to open a school for girls in Baltimore. Other women who shared Elizabeth's religious life called her "Mother Seton". With these women, Elizabeth formed the Sisters of Charity. The small group of sisters grew in number until there were Sisters of Charity throughout New York and in many other states.

Women Saints part 8

Our Lady of Lourdes
In 1858, from February 11 until July 16, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared eighteen times to young Bernadette at Lourdes. At the grotto of Massabielle, beside the River Gave, huge crowds gathered, even though no one could see her except Bernadette.
The Lady asked for a chapel to be built on the spot where she appeared. Our Lady asked for people to say prayers and do penance for sinners. Many miracles happened at the Shrine of Lourdes.
On March 25, the feast of the Annunciation, Bernadette asked the Lady what her name was. Three times she asked her name. The third time the Lady raised her hands toward heaven and answered. "I am the Immaculate Conception." Then the Lady smiled at Bernadette and disappeared.
Through the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lord has healed the souls and bodies of many of His children throughout the world.

Women Saints part 7

Saint Bernadette
Her name was Marie Bernarde, but her family and friends called her Bernadette. She was born in Lourdes, France. Her family was poor and lived in a dark, airless basement. Bernadette was often sick and had trouble with her schoolwork. One day when she was fourteen, she went to gather firewood on the bank of the river. Then, in the cave beside the river, she saw a beautiful Lady dressed in blue and white. Stars surrounded her head and roses touched her feet. The Lady asked Bernadette to pray with her.
Bernadette told others what she had seen. At first no one believed her. Later, crowds of people followed her to pray with the Lady, although only Bernadette could see her. She saw the Lady eighteen times. The Lady asked Bernadette to dig a hole in the ground. A fresh cool spring began to flow. Then she asked Bernadette to build a chapel near the spring so that people could come there to wash and drink. Since then, the Lady is known as Our Lady of Lourdes.

Saints Faustina
Helena Kowalska was born in Poland in 0915. At age 19 she devoted her life as Sister Faustina to the education of troubled young women. Soon thereafter, Jesus appeared to Sister with a message of mercy with which He wanted her to "run throughout the world".
Jesus asked Sister Faustina to be merciful herself, and through His message to encourage others to trust in Him and thus prepare the world for His coming again.
Sister Faustina's devotion to Mary, the Eucharist, and Reconciliation gave her strength to offer her sufferings to God for the Church and those in special need, especially great sinners and the dying. Sister Faustina died from tuberculosis in 1938, having taken deeply into her heart Jesus' command to "be merciful as your heavenly Father is merciful."
Pope John Paul II canonized Saint Faustina on Mercy Sunday, April 30,2000.

Talented and Artistic

This drawing is made by my daughter Leera and she is 12 years old. I want to show and tell to everyone that I'm soooo proud of her. She is so talented and artistic to draw! She started to draw when she was 2 years old (believe it or not) but not like this though? Her favorite to draw are cartoons and I told her to start to draw on people or our pictures. Her talent got it from my brother and my uncle. My husband and I can draw simple thing like cat but not like my daughter's drawing? She drew this drawing because she has a project for her school to read a book and draw a summary with details and here it is! What a detailed drawing, I'm really proud of her!

Saint Rita
Even when Rita was very young, she loved to say prayers. Her heart's desire was to dedicate her life to God and become a nun. But her parents insisted that she marry. Rita believed God wanted her to obey her parents.
Sadly, the husband they chose for her was violent and cruel. Rita was a good and kind wife, and loved her twin sons. But they grew up to be as evil as their father. Rita never stopped praying for her husband and sons.
Then one day, her husband was killed by some of his enemies. Her sosn wanted to kill jis murderers, but Rita ws against it. Revenge is wrong, she thought. She prayed for her sons to die rather than commit murder. Soon after that, God let them die.
Rita entered the convent of the Augustinian Nuns. She lived in prayer, penance and charity. She prayed to God to let her suffer like Jesus did. The a thorn from a crucifix struck her forehead and injured her. The wound never healed and she suffered from it for the rest of her life.

Saint Anne
Anne was the mother of the Virgin Mary. That means she was the mother of the mother of Jesus Christ. Her name means grace, and she had many special graces from God.
She lived with her husband Joachim, in Nazareth. For a long time they had no children, even though Anne wanted a child very much. She thought God was punishing her. She prayed to God and begged Him to let her have a child. He heard her prayers. Even though Anne was too old to have children, she had a daughter and called her Mary.
Anne loved Mary with all her heart and took very good care of her. She sent Mary to school to learn and serve in the Temple. She had promised to give her child to God. Then, when Mary returned to Nazareth, an Angel appeared to her and told her that she was going to be the Mother of Jesus.
