Yonina Flowers

This was taken last year when we visited Netherland during the tulips season. Many varieties of tulips you can find in Amsterdam and this is one of my favorite tulip bulbs because of its vibrant color. Yonina is the name! This is breathtaking bright pinkish color tulip with ivory-white highlights. The color purple in the middle with yellow pollen makes the flower more beautiful. My #5 entry of Today's Flower

How Pumpkin Pies Are Made?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.....

Thanksgiving is time for gathering with your family and friends. They prepare food and tell story about their happiness, sadness and fulfilment in their lives. Others just watch movies, play games or just relaxing.
Happy Thankgiving....

Here's the History and Origin on how and when Thanksgiving began from About.com Guide.
Almost every culture in the world has held celebrations of thanks for a plentiful harvest. The American Thanksgiving holiday began as a feast of thanksgiving in the early days of the American colonies almost four hundred years ago.

In 1620, a boat filled with more than one hundred people sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in the New World. This religious group had begun to question the beliefs of the Church of England and they wanted to separate from it. The Pilgrims settled in what is now the state of Massachusetts. Their first winter in the New World was difficult. They had arrived too late to grow many crops, and withoutfresh food, half the colony died from disease. The following spring the Iroquois Indians taught them how to grow corn (maize), a new food for the colonists. They showed them other crops to grow in theunfamiliar soil and how to hunt and fish.

In the autumn of 1621, bountiful crops of corn, barley, beans and pumpkins were harvested. The colonists had much to be thankful for, so a feast was planned. They invited the local Indian chief and90 Indians. The Indians brought deer to roast with the turkeys and other wild game offered by the colonists. The colonists had learned how to cook cranberries and different kinds of corn and squashdishes from the Indians. To this first Thanksgiving, the Indians had even brought popcorn.

In following years, many of the original colonists celebrated the autumn harvest with a feast of thanks. After the United States became an independent country, Congress recommended one yearly day ofthanksgiving for the whole nation to celebrate. George Washington suggested the date November 26 as Thanksgiving Day. Then in 1863, at the end of a long and bloody civil war, Abraham Lincoln askedall Americans to set aside the last Thursday in November as a day of thanksgiving*.

Happy Veterans Days

Happy Veterans Days to all American soldiers who served and still serving, especially I'm proud to my hubby who served more than 22 years as active soldier and still serving as civilian.

Here are some infos about Nov. 11th from Y! Buzz.
The 11th Hour: The Date Behind Veterans Day
While most know that Veterans Day honors those who have served in the military, the meaning behind its exact date (November 11) may not be so familiar. Here's the backstory:
Back in 1918, in the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, a stop to hostilities was declared, ending World War I. An armistice to cease the fighting on the Western Front was signed by the Allied powers and Germany.
President Woodrow Wilson immediately proclaimed the day "Armistice Day," kicking off the annual commemoration on November 11. But over the years, with veterans returning from World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day — a day reserved to honor veterans returning from all wars. But 11/11 still represented the end of the Great War in the public's mind, and the date stuck.
In 1921, unidentified dead from the war were buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., Westminster Abbey in London, and the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The tradition to honor those killed in the war but never identified continues every year in the U.S. The ceremony is held at 11 a.m. at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
Congress designated Veterans Day as a legal holiday in 1938, and since then, most Americans have come to know it as a day for store sales and parades. Yahoo! Searches on the holiday have already surged on the Web. People want to know "veterans day history," "veterans day closings," veterans day sales," and "veterans day free meals."

Women Saints part 15

Saint Catherine Laboure
When she was born, in Burgundy, France, her name was Zoe. She was the ninth of eleven children. Her mother died when she was eight. When her older sister left home, Zoe became the housekeeper and helper to her father.
Zoe refused to marry because she wanted to give herself to God alone. She joined the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent De Paul in Paris. There, she took the name of Catherine.
When she was a novice at twenty-four, Catherine saw a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary three times. The first time she saw the vision in the chapel. The Blessed Mother taught Catherine how to endure trials.
She was told to have a medal made with the words, "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who turn to thee." This miraculous medal helped to spread devotion to Jesus and Mary throughout the world.

Does anyone know what is this I took? Believe it or not this is clouds that looks like gorilla that has long nose, lips, and thick eyebrows. I took this photo while my hubby was driving. We came from Garmish going home. It's really nice to have your camera where ever and when ever you you go because once you see something weird, or look different, you can take it and show it. Women Saints part 14

Saint Maria Goretti

Maria Goretti was a happy and obedient child. When she was nine years old, her father died. Maria prayed each day for the strength to follow Jesus and avoid serious sin.

One day a young man named Alexander tried to force Maria to sin. She refused, saying, "I would rather die than sin."

In a rage, Alexander stabbed Maria fourteen times with a long knife. Twelve-year-old Maria lived only twenty-four hours; but before dying she forgave Alexander and prayed for his conversion.

Eight years later Maria appeared to Alexander in prison, offering him flowers. Alexander called for a priest, repented of his sins, and surrendered his life to Jesus. After his release, Alexander asked forgiveness of Maria's mother and family, and spent his life serving God.

Alexander and many of Maria's family were in Rome in 1950, when Pope Pius XII canonized the new patroness for Catholic youth: Saint Maria Goretti!
